Therapy for adults
Every single human being, when the entire situation is taken into account, has always,
at every moment of the past, done the very best that he or she could do, and so deserves neither blame nor reproach from anyone, including self. This, in particular, is true of you.

What is therapy?
Therapy is based on talking. It is a mutual exchange with a skilled professional, where you can talk about yourself and the difficulties you are having at the moment.
Maybe you have been led to believe that therapy is only appropriate for major issues such as bereavement, divorce, redundancy etc. This is not so. Much can be gained from talking to a therapist about unexplained or uncomfortable feelings, which do not appear to have a specific cause.
As a therapist, I will not offer you advice or tell you what to do, but will facilitate and assist you in trying to work things out for yourself, and in the way you want.
Could therapy help me?
At some time most of us have experienced a period of our lives when we feel unsettled, when:
- Day-to-day events become overwhelming or difficult;
- There have been changes surrounding your job;
- Changes or difficulties at home;
- Family or friends that have affected you in some way;
- You have suffered trauma;
- You feel low or depressed;
- You lack confidence;
- You have a problem of any kind that you feel you need help with.
Often at this time, we feel anxious, particularly if we are not clear what seems to be at the centre of our unease, but are aware that things are not quite right.
Therapy can provide an opportunity to explore and understand our concerns. It helps to work towards finding ways to reduce the emotional stress during these difficult periods.
How do I ask for therapy?
You can refer yourself for therapy. You do not need to be "sent" by another professional.
You can make your initial contact by phone. You will then be invited to visit and talk through your concerns, without obligation. This will help you decide whether therapy is likely to be beneficial.
What else can you tell me?
Therapy is confidential. It takes place in a comfortable setting which is private, where you will be treated with respect.
You will not be judged, opinions will not be imposed upon you or advice given, nor will decisions be made on your behalf. Rather, you will be helped to empower yourself to work through your own difficulties and find your own solutions.
Any concerns that you may have, can be discussed during your introductory meeting, when you may still be deciding if therapy is appropriate to your needs.
